Is the app fully offline?
Yes for core use. All 388 chapters and six meditation sessions are bundled. After install, browsing, reading, recite (system TTS), Character Study, meditation, Life Guidance, widgets, and local daily notifications work without network. Optional exceptions: StoreKit tipping (Apple), and sharing to another app you choose.
How is this different from a simple classics reader?
iPrimer is a growth companion: bilingual + vernacular + collected notes + tap gloss, karaoke-style recite, Character Study (recitation / fill-blank / self-check / quiz / Hunt), six guided meditations, reflection journal and habit check-ins, contextual Daily Study, share cards, six widget types, optional Live Activity, Siri & Shortcuts — not a static dump of text.
What texts are included?
388 chapters of Zhu Xi’s Xiaoxue (Primary Learning) in six volumes: Establishing Teaching, Relationships, Self-Respect, Antiquity, Fine Words, and Good Deeds — plus famous lines and author pages.
What does “recite” mean here?
Product term for read-aloud. Follow segment highlighting while listening. In Settings you can configure what is spoken (title / author / body × original / vernacular / English) independently from what you see.
What study modes are available?
Recitation, fill-blank, self-check, quiz, plus Hunt (寻句). Mastery has levels with study streaks. You can practice a single chapter or a batch from favorites / study lists (学单).
What is Daily Study?
A contextual recommendation with same-day cache. Optional local reminders in Settings.
What about meditation and Life Guidance?
Six offline guided meditations with breathing animation, optional Meditation Live Activity, and a Meditation Streak widget. Life Guidance includes a reflection journal (linkable to Daily Study) and seven daily habit check-ins (洒扫应对), tracked separately from study streaks.
What are tap-to-gloss terms?
Underlined words in the original text open a popover with definitions. There is no global on/off switch; glosses do not enter the default recitation matrix.
What does iCloud Sync cover?
Optional sync for favorites, study lists, reading history, study progress, study streaks, reflection journal entries, and habit check-in history via your private iCloud KVS.
