Is the app fully offline?
Yes for core use. The library, vernacular, English, and study aids ship on device. After install, browsing, close reading, recite (system TTS), Family Study, widgets, and local daily notifications work without network. Optional exceptions: StoreKit tipping (Apple), sharing to another app you choose, and optional iCloud.
How is this different from a simple ebook?
iPrecepts is a family-precept studio: bilingual close reading, parallel compare across generations, karaoke-style recite, Family Study, Precept Hunt, Daily Precept, precept cards, widgets, optional Live Activity, Siri & Shortcuts — not a static dump of text.
What texts are included?
118 works of family instruction, including:
- Zhu Xi, Family Precepts, and Zhu Bailu, Household Maxims (the two Zhu precepts)
- Yan Zhitui, Family Instructions (20 chapters)

What is parallel compare?
A side-by-side reading of the same household theme (learning, frugality, speech, kinship) across dynasties — so Zhu Xi, Yan Zhitui, and Zeng Guofan can answer one question together. Open via iprecepts://compare.
What study modes are available?
Fade, fill-blank, self-check, and quiz, with mastery tracking. Precept Hunt on Home is a separate find-the-passage game.
What is Daily Precept?
A daily passage on Home, optionally contextual, with optional local reminders. Widgets can keep it on the Home Screen, Lock Screen, and StandBy.
What does iCloud Sync cover?
Optional sync for favorites, lists (训单), notes, reading history, study progress, and streaks via your private iCloud KVS.
