Is iDictionary fully offline?
Yes — after the one-time database setup on first launch (~155 MB inflate), all dictionary content works without internet. Only optional iCloud sync uses network when enabled.
Do I need an account?
No. iDictionary requires no registration, no login, and no account.
How many characters, words, and idioms are included?
20,000+ hanzi, 320,000+ words, and 49,000+ idioms, plus 9,500+ stroke-order animations.
How does handwriting lookup work?
Draw a character on the handwriting pad. iDictionary matches your strokes against the built-in character database and shows results instantly — all on-device.
How does OCR / camera lookup work?
Point your camera at printed Chinese text. On-device vision recognizes characters and opens the matching dictionary entry. No image is uploaded.
What are stroke-order animations?
Over 9,500 SVG animations show each stroke in the correct order — ideal for learning how to write characters.
What widgets are available?
Daily character, daily idiom, learning overview, and lock-screen accessories. On iOS 16.2+, Live Activity shows today’s character on the Dynamic Island and lock screen. iOS 18+ adds a Control Center random-character control.
Can I use Siri or Shortcuts?
Yes. Look up a character, open daily character, get a random character, or open search — via Siri and the Shortcuts app. See Shortcut Links.
What does iCloud Sync cover?
Optional sync for favorites and preferences. It is off by default and uses your private iCloud key-value store — not iHTCTeam servers.
Which languages does the app support?
English, 简体中文, and 繁體中文 for the UI. Dictionary content is in Simplified Chinese with live 简→繁 conversion.
