Is the app fully offline?
Yes for core use. All 81 Tao Te Ching chapters (with vernacular, pinyin, dual commentaries, and dual English editions), Qingjing Jing, Yinfu Jing, and famous lines are bundled. After install, browsing, reading, recite (system TTS), Study Hall, Seek the Tao, widgets, and local daily notifications work without network. Optional exceptions: StoreKit tipping (Apple), and sharing to another app you choose.
How is this different from a simple Tao Te Ching reader?
iDao is a studio: per-character pinyin, two classical commentaries, two English editions (switch or compare), karaoke-style recite, Study Hall (fade / fill-blank / self-check / quiz), Seek the Tao, Daily Chapter, Dao cards, widgets, optional Live Activity, Siri & Shortcuts — not a static ebook.
How much content is included?
81 chapters of the Tao Te Ching, plus Qingjing Jing and Yinfu Jing for further reading, and 74 bilingual famous lines.
What does “recite” / “诵读” mean here?
Product term for read-aloud with line-level highlighting. In Settings you can configure what is spoken (original / vernacular / English) independently from what you see.
What study modes are available?
Fade, fill-blank, self-check, quiz, plus Seek the Tao (寻道). Mastery has four badge levels. You can practice one chapter or a batch from favorites / lists (道单).
What is Daily Chapter?
A daily recommendation drawn from a contextual pool (solar terms / festivals / seasons). Optional local reminders. Widgets can show today’s chapter too.
Can I switch commentaries and English editions?
Yes. On chapter detail you can switch Wang Bi ↔ Heshang Gong, and choose or compare the two English editions when available. Qingjing / Yinfu may hide bilingual compare when an English edition is absent.
What does iCloud Sync cover?
Optional sync for favorites, lists, reading history, study progress / mastery, notes, and streaks via your private iCloud KVS with bidirectional merge.
