Is the app fully offline?
Yes for core use. All 957 surnames and stroke-order data ship on device. After install, browsing, detail reading, recite (system TTS), Study Hall, naming inspiration, widgets, and local daily notifications work without network. Optional exceptions: StoreKit tipping (Apple), optional system translation, and sharing to another app you choose.
How is this different from a simple surname list?
iBaiJia is a culture studio: origins, halls, migration, distribution, eight browse axes, four-character recitation, Study Hall (recognition / pinyin / flashcards / chain / source quiz), Daily Surname, stroke tracing, share cards, widgets, optional Live Activity, Siri & Shortcuts — not a static table.
How many surnames are included?
957 surnames: 504 in traditional order plus 453 extended entries (77 compound surnames). English glosses and cultural fields are bundled offline.
What browse dimensions are available?
Pinyin, strokes, wuxing, single vs compound, traditional vs extended, surname source, population rank, and the full four-character Hundred Family Surnames text.
What does recitation mean here?
The classic four-character original text in a dedicated studio: four-column layout, line highlight, tap-to-start, single-line loop, optional background audio and Live Activity.
What study modes are available?
Recognition quiz, Pinyin match, Flashcards, Four-character chain, and Source quiz. High scores are stored locally. Naming inspiration runs entirely on device.
What is Daily Surname?
A daily recommendation on Home with optional local reminders. Set My Surname for personalized shortcuts and widgets.
What does iCloud Sync cover?
Optional sync for favorites, surname lists, notes, study progress, streaks, and related preferences via your private iCloud KVS.
Can I back up my data?
Yes. Settings supports plain-text export / import (marked sections) for my surname, favorites, lists, notes, history, study scores, and more — still on your devices only.
